memome

memome is a simple AI-powered app to easily organize school handouts. In Japan, there are still tons of paper documents dominating in workplaces or schools. Especially, parents struggle from organizing handouts their children bring back from school. memome was built to facilitate their analog workflow by leveraging GPT technology to extract, parse, and organize information from physical documents. The AI automatically reads handouts, identifies key information like dates, events, and action items, and structures them into a digital format that parents can easily manage.

Unlike other projects in my portfolio where I typically handled user interface design, in this project I was primarily focused on developing the iOS client application while collaborating with another designer. This included implementing the native camera and document scanning features, building the photo editing interface with cropping and color adjustment capabilities, creating the document detail overlay system, and integrating the calendar functionality with iOS’s native calendar APIs.

Importing the data of physical documents is not easy. It is cleansed both to scan it more precisely and organize it with more ease later, so it needed to have a minimum functionality of photo editing: cropping, rotating, and color-adjusting.

Parents who have junior kids tend to feel overwhelmed by much information on documents, and they usually are so difficult to be read with a complex layout with multiple figures and tables. Some of them are even handwritten. Using memome allows the parents to skim what the document is about and what events they have to participate or what to bring for them.

Obviously reading a document more closely is still one of the main use-cases, so users can take a look at it in the overlay without losing spaces for the scanned information.

When adding schedules extracted from a document, you are still making sure that the information of digitized data and documents match. In order not to get lost in the infomation, the user interface automatically focuses on the date users are trying to add to a calendar.
